Weather Eye: As we brace for the cold, let’s review October rainfall

Let’s start with a review of October rainfall.

OK, totals from your friends and neighbors: Rob Starr, Cougar, 9.61 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 1.94 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 3.30 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 2.14 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 2.58 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 2.50 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 3.02 inches; Murphy Dennis, Rawson Road near Clark Rifles, 5.02 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 2.59 inches; Larry Lebsack, Barberton, 2.51 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 3.47 inches; Dave Campbell, 1 mile west of Heisson, 3.15 inches and Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 4.42 inches. Our friend Roland Dersken in Vancouver, B.C., had 5.02 inches. In comparison, the official rainfall for Vancouver USA was 1.99 inches, 1.08 inches below average.

Totals from most of the observers were only half as much as what fell in September, and now November is really on the dry side. As of 4 p.m. Saturday we only had 1.25 inches, more than 3 inches below average.

OK, here is what I know as of Saturday: Cold weather is on the way. Highs beginning Wednesday through the weekend will struggle to crack 40 degrees. Lows will be in the 30s, then in the 20s in wind-sheltered areas. Maybe some upper teens?

Expect some light showers today through Tuesday with amounts on the light side.
