Weather Eye: December has already had more rain than in all of November

Before time slips away, let’s review rainfall from November while we are at it.

OK, rainfall from your friends and neighbors: Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 1.98 inches; Rob Starr, Cougar, 2.79 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 1.77 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 1.93 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 2.14 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 1.80 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 1.61 inches; Dave Campbell, 1 mile west of Heisson, 1.52 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 2.41 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 2.22 inches; and Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 3.09 inches. Our friend Roland Dersken in Vancouver, B.C., had 4.44 inches. In comparison, the rainfall for Vancouver USA was 1.57 inches, the sixth-driest on record.

These are incredibly dry amounts for November, usually one of our wettest months. December so far here in Vancouver has had more rain than in all of November with 1.83 inches, which is still paltry compared to normal.

Looking back nine years ago at what I was writing about: In December 2011 it was extremely dry for the first 14 days of the month. Vancouver measured only 0.02 inch of rain. And it was cold, with each one of those 14 days having temperatures below 32 degrees.

Right now we have rather mundane conditions until a more potent storm arrives late Wednesday and Thursday. It could be a soaker that we really need, with breezy conditions as well.

Other than that, clouds, fog, chance of showers and a few sunbreaks until midweek.
