Family says man wrongfully convicted of killing wife, offers $250,000 reward

The family of a man who died this year, after being convicted in the 1989 killing his wife, claims he was innocent. On Wednesday, the estate offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the slaying in Vancouver’s North Image neighborhood.

Effie Entezari was killed on May 1, 1989, in the parking lot of her apartment complex at 11614 N.E. 49th St., according to a statement from Portland-based Markowitz Herbold PC trial law firm, which represents Effie Entezari’s estate. Entezari’s husband, Mike Entezari, was convicted in her death and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Mike Entezari died earlier this year. The family filed a wrongful death lawsuit last week in Clark County Superior Court, claiming the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office intervened to prevent the release of key new evidence.

“The case against him was founded primarily on circumstantial evidence and faulty ballistics,” the statement said.

The only witness in the case, a neighbor, reported looking out her window after hearing what sounded like a car backfire, according the news release. The woman reportedly saw a small, yellow car back up quickly from several parking spaces away — past where Effie Entezari’s body would have been lying. The car reportedly then got closer to where the body was found, slowed down and raced off.

Mike Entezari didn’t own a yellow car, according to the news release.

“I am confident that my father did not murder my mother,” Pooneh Gray, the Entezaris daughter, said in the news release. “The estate is working hard to uncover new evidence and collaborate with local law enforcement to hold my mother’s true killers responsible. I am hopeful that this reward will encourage additional witnesses to come forward.”
