Men’s Shed to promote physical, mental health

The Vancouver Men’s Shed will host its first general meeting at noon Nov. 9 in the CDM Services Building, 2300 N.E. Andresen Rd., Vancouver.

Men’s Shed, which started in Australia, is aimed at helping improve older men’s health and risk of developing health complications that come from social isolation and loneliness.

There are 3,000 sheds worldwide and 17 in the U.S. across five states. Each Men’s Shed has its own unique focus, but the goal is to promote casual health discussions while working together on projects, as one might in a shed or garage. These can be community projects, and some sheds bring in speakers related to topics covering men’s health.

The Vancouver Men’s Shed is run by CDM Caregiver Services, a nonprofit dedicated to serving elders and people of all ages with disabilities, according to a Men’s Shed press release.
