Teen ran red light, caused head-on crash in Battle Ground

A teenage boy failed to stop for a red light, causing a head-on crash Monday morning in Battle Ground that sent him and another driver to the hospital, according to a city spokeswoman.

A 1991 Nissan pickup driven by a 17-year-old boy was south on Southeast Grace Avenue and entered the intersection at Eaton Boulevard, striking a 2007 Saab 9-7X, Battle Ground police spokeswoman Bonnie Gilberti said in an email.

The driver of the Saab, 43-year-old Keri Ramirez of Battle Ground, had a green light when entering the intersection, according to Gilberti.

Police, firefighters and medics were dispatched at 6:21 a.m. to the intersection for a report of a crash with injuries. Responders found one driver unconscious at the scene. Both drivers were taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver for medical treatment. Ramirez was not listed at the hospital Tuesday.

The teenage driver, who is also from Battle Ground, was not identified; he was cited for reckless driving, Gilberti said.
