Dragon boat championship relocates to Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD — The Western Region Dragon Boat Racing Championships will move from Vancouver Lake to Ridgefield Marina on Lake River.

McCuddy’s Ridgefield Marina is at 5 Mill St., and the races will be Aug. 2-4. More than 800 athletes will compete in the event. The race has been moved because of current water conditions at Vancouver Lake.

Vancouver Lake is closed due to elevated cyanotoxin levels. There are also elevated levels of E. coli bacteria.

Paddle for Life’s dragon boat race in July was canceled because of elevated toxin levels. Clark County Public Health recommended the race not be held there. Race organizers instead decided to host a run/walk on the grounds of Vancouver Lake Regional Park.
