Troopers seeking tips about apparently random Highway 14 shooting

Washington State Patrol detectives are seeking information about a bizarre shooting in which a bullet struck a car on eastbound state Highway 14 in Vancouver. Debris from the gunshot injured the driver.

The shooting happened at 11:27 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 14 between Evergreen Boulevard and Lieser Road. The bullet struck just above the driver’s side door of a red Subaru Impreza driven by Jessyca Sweeten, WSP said in a Monday news release.

When the bullet struck the vehicle, glass shattered into Sweeten’s face, Trooper Will Finn said Sunday in an email. She was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for facial injuries and was reported to be recovering.

Sweeten’s vehicle was examined at the WSP Crime Lab in Vancouver. It took until Friday to determine the Subaru had been struck by a bullet, troopers said.

Detectives are looking for witnesses with any information about the shooting. If anyone has information, they should contact Detective Jen Ortiz at 360-449-7948 or Jennifer.Ortiz@wsp.wa.gov.
