Vancouver motorcyclist in serious condition following Sunday crash

A motorcyclist injured in a crash Sunday night in Vancouver’s Ogden neighborhood was in serious condition Monday afternoon at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesman.

Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp identified the motorcyclist as 51-year-old Gregory Verdugo.

Verdugo, a Vancouver resident, was southbound on Northeast Thurston Way at its intersection with Vancouver Plaza Drive when a Volvo heading in the opposite direction turned left into the path of his motorcycle, Kapp said in an email.

Unable to stop in time, Verdugo hit the passenger’s side of the car and was ejected from his bike.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 7:23 p.m. to 8320 N.E. Vancouver Plaza Drive. Medics took Verdugo to the hospital with injuries that appeared to be life-threatening, Vancouver Fire spokesman Joe Spatz said. No other injuries were reported.

The traffic unit is continuing its investigation.
