Motorcyclist who hit deer recovering at Vancouver hospital

A motorcyclist who struck a deer Sunday night west of the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds is in satisfactory condition at a Vancouver hospital.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office identified the motorcyclist as Neil Johnson. A PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center spokesman said a patient by the same name was doing OK as of Monday morning.

Emergency radio traffic monitored Sunday night at The Columbian indicated that the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

Medics and deputies were dispatched at 9:39 p.m. to Northwest 179th Street and Northwest 28th Avenue. The crash appeared to involve a deer, and the motorcyclist was unconscious but breathing, according to the scanner.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Brent Waddell said Johnson hit the deer and crashed on the roadway. The impact killed the deer, Waddell said.
