Washington school superintendents, including four in Clark County, face criticism after asking the governor’s office to take executive action shielding districts from coronavirus liability in the new school year.

In a July 24 letter to Gov. Jay Inslee, the Washington Schools Risk Management Pool and ClearRisk solutions urged the governor to sign an executive order to protect districts from COVID-19 liability lawsuits.

Missing Vancouver man’s body recovered from ravine in Clackamas, Ore.

Law enforcement is conducting a death investigation after a missing Vancouver man’s body was found Thursday morning at the bottom of a ravine in Clackamas, Ore.

The 34-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, was found near Southeast 97th Avenue and Southeast Sunnybrook Boulevard, according to a news release from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

Driver killed in Sunday crash in Camas ID’d as Vancouver man

One person was killed and five others were treated for minor injuries in a two-vehicle, head-on collision Sunday in Camas.

Northwest Lake Road near Lacamas Lane was closed just after 4:30 p.m. when a Mazda 6 sedan and Audi sedan collided. The Mazda was traveling west when it crossed the center line and struck the eastbound Audi, according to the Camas Police Department.

East Vancouver J.C. Penney store on list of closures

The J.C. Penney store in east Vancouver’s Columbia Tech Center is permanently closing Oct. 26.

The store, at 19005 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., is undergoing a liquidation process, which will involve going-out-of-business sales until late October, according to an employee at the location who did not give her name.

Avamere Rehabilitation of Cascade Park records 40 coronavirus cases

Avamere Rehabilitation of Cascade Park in east Vancouver has recorded 40 COVID-19 cases, making it Clark County’s largest outbreak associated with a long-term care facility since the county’s first COVID-19 case was discovered in March.

Clark County Public Health confirmed the outbreak to The Columbian on Thursday afternoon. As of 5 p.m., a COVID-19 dashboard on Avamere’s website said that 18 residents and 22 staff at the skilled-nursing facility had tested positive for the virus.
