Clark County early returns at nearly 30% for primary

Clark County voter turnout ahead of today’s primary election stood just below 30 percent Monday, approaching the total turnout figure for the most recent comparable election.

Out of 303,758 eligible voters, 89,561 had turned in ballots by Monday, according to the Clark County Elections Office. Polls close at 8 p.m.

The Aug. 2, 2016, primary election attracted just over 30 percent of county voters. The general election in that presidential year had about a 77 percent turnout.

Highlighting today’s ballot are races narrowing the field for Washington governor, the state’s 3rd Congressional District and Clark County Council District 3. Finalists for 18th District Senate, both 49th District House seats, a Ridgefield School District bond and several other ballot items will also be decided.

First results will be released about 8:15 p.m. and will be posted on the county’s website and at www.columbian.com. More returns will be released over the next few days.

To be valid, ballots must be mailed and postmarked on or before today, or returned by 8 p.m. to drop boxes (see map below).

Voters may return ballots to the county Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St., from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Election workers will also be available during those hours at the La Center Community Center, 100 E. Fourth St.; Grace Foursquare Gospel Church, 717 S.E. Everett Road, Camas; and Clark County Fire District 3 Station 31 in Brush Prairie, 17718 N.E. 159th St.

Drive-up and walk-up ballot boxes are also available at 12 locations.
