Camas woman, 18, faces attempted murder charge

An 18-year-old Camas woman faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and arson, following a Wednesday fire at a home in Carson.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that Michaela J. Cutler faces a litany of charges, which also include burglary and possession of stolen firearms. An online inmate roster shows she is being held at the Skamania County Jail.

At about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, deputies and firefighters were dispatched to a home in Carson for a report of a vehicle fire inside a garage, the sheriff’s office said.

The fire was extinguished, but a vehicle was destroyed and the home was damaged.

“A review of the homeowner’s security cameras revealed the fire was intentionally set by a previous roommate, by pouring an accelerant around the vehicles in the garage and up to the door leading into the residence,” the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies also reported that the smoke detectors at the house had been tampered with, making them inoperable.

Cutler was arrested the following day at a nearby hotel. She was initially booked into the jail on suspicion of violating a court order; a subsequent search warrant was executed on her hotel room and resulted in the additional charges.

She was arraigned in Skamania County Superior Court, and her bail was set at $500,000.
