Battle Ground HealthCare receives grant

Battle Ground HealthCare was awarded a $65,000 grant to hire a nurse practitioner who will assist in meeting an increased demand for health care as a result of COVID-19, according to a HealthCare press release.

The funding comes from a rapid-response grant from the Southwest Washington COVID Response Fund, a pooled emergency fund managed by the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington.

The pandemic has raised unemployment rates, which means more people are relying on the free health care clinic. That demand has been challenging to meet, said Sue Neal, executive director at Battle Ground HealthCare.

“A part-time nurse practitioner will allow us to get our patients back into the clinic, see more patients and offer flexibility when our patients experience acute needs outside of their regular appointments,” Neal said.

The grant will provide the short-term funding for the pandemic, but the clinic will be seeking additional grants and funding moving forward.
