Clark County Public Health confirmed 38 COVID-19 cases Thursday morning and its first death since June 22.
The newest death was to a man in his 30s, who had no underlying conditions, according to Public Health.
Clark County now has 1,128 confirmed cases and 30 deaths. At least 16,998 people have been tested for the virus in Clark County.
There are 19 people hospitalized for coronavirus in Clark County, and another 13 people hospitalized, who are under investigation for coronavirus in Clark County.
The county’s two local hospitals are at 68 percent bed capacity, 12 percent under the state’s threshold metric for Phase 3.
The county has 5.1 percent of its hospital beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients and people under investigation for COVID-19, about five percent below the state’s threshold metric for Phase 3.
The rate of new cases per 100,000 population is at 52.4, more than double the state’s target of 25 new cases per 100,000 population for Phase 3.
In the last couple weeks, infection rates in Clark County have surged. At Wednesday’s Clark County Board of Health meeting, Clark County Public Health Officer Dr. Alan Melnick said he’s particularly concerned about hospital overflow.
“I’m concerned that over the next few weeks and months that if the cases keep going up, we’re going to see stress on our hospital system,” Melnick said.
Washington has 37,941 confirmed cases and 1,394 deaths, according to state Department of Health statistics.
