Playgrounds at Vancouver’s public parks are now open, following an emergency order issued by City Manager Eric Holmes on Tuesday.
Play structures, sport courts, restrooms and picnic shelters have reopened to the public, marking the end to one set of COVID-19 restrictions. The city has also reopened Wintler Community Park, the Leverich Park disc golf course and Swift Skate Park.
There is no regular sanitization schedule for park amenities, and staff can’t guarantee that the public areas are free of the virus, according to a press release from the city Tuesday afternoon.
Park users are asked to stay home if they’re experiencing any illness or have been in contact with someone suspected of having the coronavirus within the last 14 days. Visitors are also asked to maintain social distancing protocol and avoid groups larger than five people.
In situations where social distancing is hard to maintain, like on a playground, park visitors should wear face masks.
The city council will review Holmes’ emergency order at their meeting Monday.
