Fire destroys motor home in Woodland

A fire late Saturday morning destroyed a motor home parked at a residence in Woodland. No one was injured.

Crews with Clark County Fire District 10 responded at 11:40 a.m. for what was initially reported as a vehicle fire at 41910 N.E. 39th Ave.

Firefighters arrived to find a 24-foot motor home fully engulfed in flames, Capt. Tony Barnes said.

They learned that the owner had been getting the motor home ready to go camping when smoke started coming from the refrigerator area. The owner moved the smoking motor home away from a nearby residence to protect the structure, Barnes said.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze in about a half-hour, but crews remained for another hour mopping up hot spots, he said. The motor home, estimated to be worth about $15,000, was deemed a total loss, Barnes said.

Five apparatus and 13 people responded to the fire.
