Fire damages Woodland apartment building

A fire destroyed a single unit and damaged the attic space of a Woodland apartment building Thursday morning.

Clark County Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched at 9:01 a.m. to 560 Bozarth Ave. for the report of a multiresidential structure fire. The apartment building is in Cowlitz County.

The crews arrived to find a three-unit apartment building with one of the units engulfed in flames. The fire also spread to the attic, said Fire Chief John Nohr.

The fire is under investigation, but it appears to have started on a deck and spread into the building, Nohr said.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to get the blaze under control, the fire chief said. Six engines and a ladder truck, which included crews from neighboring fire districts, responded to the scene.

Only the damaged unit was being occupied. The two other apartments in the building were being remodeled. The tenants are out of town; they will be displaced, Nohr said.
