Heart and Stroke walk adapts to pandemic

The Vancouver Heart and Stroke walk will have a different feel this weekend, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The walk, thrown by the American Heart Association, celebrates heart and stroke survivors, and raises funds for research, advocacy efforts and more.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, participants and teams will not physically meet, but can walk around their home or neighborhood, while following physical distancing guidelines.

“This is new for us, for sure, but we can remain connected to our communities and take steps that keep us heart healthy while adhering to the public guidelines around social distancing,” said Leslie McCall, executive director for the American Heart Association in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Register at pdxheartwalk.org. Everyone is encouraged to wear red, or their team’s colors, and post pictures and videos to document their activity, using the hashtag #VancouverHeartWalk and tagging @ahaoregon.

The Vancouver Heart and Stroke Walk is sponsored by the Vancouver Clinic, Columbia Credit Union and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.
