Arson deemed cause of Vancouver house fire

A house fire early Sunday morning near David Douglas Park was intentionally set, according to the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office.

The cause of the fire was determined to be incendiary, Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said. The fire marshal’s office and Vancouver Police Department are investigating the fire and chasing leads, Scarpelli said.

At 2:54 a.m., multiple fire engines were dispatched to 722 N. Morrison Road. Once there, crews found the house’s occupants had already evacuated.

Vancouver Fire Department spokeswoman Eva Scherer said the fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported. Fire crews rescued a cat from inside the house.

Three people were displaced by the fire, which caused about $58,000 worth of damage, Scarpelli said. The damage is significant, she said, but the home is not considered a total loss.
