Weather Eye: April the grown-up or April the toddler? Time will tell

Finally, it appears we will get a soaking rain Wednesday with perhaps upward of a half-inch. I was hoping the storm that will arrive from the west, the first one in several moons, would hold together.

It seems plain odd to be watering the lawn and garden this early. Come on, April showers. So, Wednesday is a rainy day, and showers should end as Thursday gets going. Another chance of April showers will continue over the weekend. But as the term showers indicates, rain falls then skies clear. So not a complete washout.

This April so far is the driest that I can recall in at least the past 25 or 30 years. Vancouver is running about 1.75 inches below average. We still have 10 days left this month, so if we can get enough of those showers over the rain gauge, we may catch up a bit.

Monday was delightful in Vancouver with the high for the day at 70 degrees as of 5 p.m. I could get used to that pretty easily. How are you holding up during this Stay Home, Stay Safe ordeal? We should have no complaints with the pleasant weather and only four days this month with measurable rainfall.

Hold off on watering to see just how much falls later tonight and Wednesday.

The increasing clouds that roll in from the west later today will advertise an unsettled attitude with atmospheric instability. April is such a fickle month and full of folly — acting like a grown-up one day and like a toddler the next.
