A house fire in Vancouver’s Kevanna Park neighborhood killed two pets Tuesday.
Vancouver Fire Department crews were dispatched at 2:37 p.m. to 11116 N.E. 42nd St., for a report of a residential structure fire.
The fire was called in by a neighbor. The residents were not home but returned shortly after the 911 call came in, fire department spokesman Bryan Fredrickson said.
The first arriving crew found heavy smoke coming from the single-story home and an active fire in one of its bedrooms, Fredrickson said. The fire was under control in seven minutes, he said.
A dog and cat died from smoke inhalation, according to the fire department.
The fire was confined to the bedroom, but it caused smoke and heat damage throughout the house, Fredrickson said.
The Red Cross is providing aid to four adults and one child who were displaced.
The Vancouver fire marshal is investigating the cause.
