Eight more people test positive for COVID-19 in Clark County

Clark County Public Health reported eight new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, for a total of 90 cases in the county.

No new deaths were reported Sunday; six fatalities have been reported since the first local case was confirmed March 7.

Saturday saw six new cases, following spikes on Thursday and Friday, when 28 people in the county tested positive for the novel coronavirus on both days.

Another 653 tests have returned negative for COVID-19, a contagious respiratory illness with symptoms similar to the flu.

Symptoms include fever, dry cough, chest tightness and difficulty breathing.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms that clear up in two to three weeks. But for others, particularly older adults and those with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, such as pneumonia, or death.

Most local cases have been people in their 40s, 50s and 60s; all six fatalities were people 70 or older.
