Clark County announces third COVID-19 death

Clark County Public Health announced a third death from COVID-19 Wednesday morning.

A man in his 70s, who was the first confirmed case in the county, died late Tuesday night. He had been hospitalized at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.

The man didn’t have any known recent travel or contact with a confirmed case.

“It’s a tragedy that we’ve lost another member of our community to COVID-19,” Clark County health Officer Dr. Alan Melnick said. “We send our deepest condolences to his family.”

On Monday, Clark County announced its first two deaths from COVID-19. A married couple in their 80s died late Monday night. They lived in different long-term care facilities, but had frequent contact with each other.

All three deaths have come to people older than 70, which is an age range that has increased risk of mortality from COVID-19.
