The COVID-19 outbreak will delay the opening of the Vancouver Farmers Market’s 2020 season, which had been planned for Saturday.
“This hard decision was made in the best interest of public health,” according to a statement Jordon Boldt, the market’s executive director, emailed to The Columbian on Monday. “However, we know it will create significant hardship both for those that rely on the market for fresh and healthy food and the farmers and food producers who rely on the market for their small business income.”
The market will look for creative ways to help connect customers with the market’s farmers, ranchers, bakers and other vendors, he said.
The market will provide additional updates on these plans, as well as when it might open, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. No date has been set for the opening at this point.
