A 17-year-old boy died Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle head-on crash in the Glenwood area. A man who was driving the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

Responders were dispatched shortly before 5 p.m. to a report of the crash in the 15000 block of Northeast 72nd Avenue, according to a news release from the Vancouver Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived to find the two crashed cars, a Mercedes sedan and a Ford van. An unresponsive 17-year-old was pinned inside the Mercedes he was driving. Firefighters extricated him with heavy machinery, which took about 20 minutes. He died at the scene, according to the news release.

Witnesses told investigators that the driver of the Mercedes was traveling south on Northeast 72nd Avenue and crossed the centerline of the roadway, going into the path of the northbound Ford van. The two cars then collided, according to the news release.

The driver of the van, Cody Potter, 27, of Battle Ground was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the news release.

The identity of the 17-year-old boy who died was not released.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. It’s unclear why the Mercedes crossed the centerline, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
