Weather service warns of high winds in Southwest Washington

The National Weather Service in Portland is warning of high winds in Southwest Washington and Oregon with gusts of up to 45 mph today and Saturday.

The wind advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Saturday.

The weather service expects south winds from 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 35 to 45 mph over exposed hills along the Interstate 5 corridor from Vancouver north to Cowlitz County. The winds are also expected to his the Portland-metro area south through the Willamette Valley.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, according to the weather service. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Saturated soils along with gusty winds can increase the chances for larger trees to fall over. Periods of higher winds are expected this afternoon and evening and could continue unto early Saturday morning.

The weather service is still predicting a chance of snow. Rain mixed with snow is likely Sunday night with more possibility of snowfall into next week. The snow level will be around 1,500 feet by Sunday night and will drop to 7oo feet Monday. According to NWS, snow is likely Wednesday and Thursday with highs of 27 Wednesday and 34 on Thursday.
