Vancouver house fire displaces pair of residents

A house fire in the Old Evergreen Highway neighborhood late Thursday morning displaced two people, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11:35 a.m. to 1500 S.E. 79th Court for a report of a residential structure fire.

The first arriving crew found smoke billowing from the front of a single-story residence, Vancouver firefighter-paramedic Bryan Fredrickson said.

Two residents were home when the fire started; they met responding firefighters outside and were uninjured, Fredrickson said.

Firefighters grabbed a fire hose and entered the home, dousing flames that had quickly spread through the kitchen. The fire was under control in about 11 minutes.

The fire was contained to the kitchen, Fredrickson said, but smoke and water damage made the home temporarily uninhabitable.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
