An Aloha, Ore., man allegedly injured a woman Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash in Brush Prairie. Later, he was arrested after allegedly shooting the tires of an unoccupied car in Battle Ground.
Police, fire and medical crews responded at 10:44 a.m. to Northeast 117th Avenue and Northeast 149th Street. A black 2011 Buick Regal was struck by a white 2012 Mazda while turning left from Caples Road onto state Highway 503, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.
The northbound Mazda had failed to stop at a traffic light before the crash, according to the memo. It struck the front end of the Buick before fleeing the scene.
The driver of the Buick — Mary C. Davis, 71, of Brush Prairie — was injured and taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, according to WSP. Her injuries were not life-threatening, according to a Battle Ground Police Department news release.
Less than 10 minutes after the crash, as officers began searching for the driver, Battle Ground police responded to reports of shots fired at 809 S.E. Second Ave. Witnesses said that a man fired shots at the tires of an unoccupied vehicle, police said.
While responding to the scene, Battle Ground police officers and Clark County sheriff’s deputies located a man matching the description of the shooter walking on East Main Street near East Fourth Avenue, according to the news release. Ignat G. Danilin, 27, was arrested without incident, and police recovered the firearm suspected to have been used in the shooting.
Battle Ground police detectives determined that Danilin was the driver involved in the earlier crash. He was charged with first-degree assault and hit-and-run, with additional charges likely coming, police said.
