Camas to require business licenses beginning Jan. 1

Camas will require business licenses beginning Jan. 1, and an online registration portal is now active.

The licenses — which will have a $10 fee and be good for one calendar year — are required for anyone who does business in the city and has a gross annual income of more than $2,000 per year.

City officials are hoping the new licenses will allow the city to track what types of businesses are located in town.

“We are excited to get to know more about all the businesses functioning in Camas,” Cathy Huber Nickerson, the city’s finance director, said in a release from the city. “That knowledge will give us new insights about how to contribute to their longevity and success.”

Business owners can register and pay for their city business license when paying for other licenses at the Washington State Department of Revenue website,

Those doing business in the city with a gross annual income of less than $2,000 per year, nonprofits and government entities are not required to register. Eligible business owners who don’t register will face a civil offense and a fine of up to $500.

Those looking for information can contact the city’s finance department at 616 N.E. Fourth Ave., call 360-834-2462 or visit
