Battle Ground Rotary, community members plant tree in honor of late attorney

Battle Ground — After Battle Ground attorney Jill Kurtz died of a pulmonary embolism in January 2018, others in the community wanted to do something to honor someone known as a “serial volunteer.” Members of the Battle Ground Rotary Club, of which Kurtz was a member, joined with others in the community to plant a tree in front of her family’s law office. They also placed a plaque as a tribute and memorial to her. Terry Reddish with the Rotary oversaw the project. Tapani Underground ordered the steel tree grate and the dedication plaque and did the cutting of the sidewalk, and also contacted Northfork Landscaping, which provided the tree and planting labor at no cost. After the tree dedication, about 18 volunteers spend a few hours picking up trash, pulling weeds, cleaning and sweeping up sidewalks and planters along side Main Street, where the law office is located.
