South Ridge students raise money, compete for parties in Sport-a-Thon

Ridgefield — South Ridge Elementary School hosted the school’s second Sport-a-Thon fundraiser recently.

The idea behind the fundraiser was to replace the school auction, which only adults could participate in, event chairwoman Kelli Bushnell said in a release from the district. The goal was to raise $10,000.

Bushnell said in the release that final numbers weren’t in yet, but organizers expect to cross the $10,000 line. Students threw footballs at targets, crawled and jumped through an obstacle course and broke inflatable boards with taekwondo.

Each class worked together as a team, competing for prizes such as popcorn parties, free recess, a sundae party with the principal, Amazon gift cards or a pizza party.
