MOUNT ST. HELENS NATIONAL VOLCANIC MONUMENT — The fact that unpredictably moving rock has blocked the road to its prime visitor center says a lot about Mount St. Helens. Much of the landscape around this active volcano is literally new, making it one of the most uniquely beautiful and educational sites to explore in the whole Pacific Northwest. And it’s practically in our backyard.
